ICMR conducts regular opinion polls in 'The Sunday Indian' based on the current issues like Politics, Aids, Cricket, Bollywood etc. These opinion polls are based on a mass survey conducted by ICMR across various cities of India.

Most loved & hated Indians
Issue: 3rd February, 2008


Indian Council for Market Research (ICMR) on behalf of 'The Sunday Indian' conducted an opinion poll on "The Most Hated and Loved Indians". ICMR conducted the survey across the categories of Business, Politics, Bollywood and Sports. The objective of the study was to understand the common man's perception and preference in the above mentioned categories on their most loved & hated Indians.

The Jihad Factor
Issue: 6th January, 2008


A special opinion poll on Benazir Bhutto was conducted to find out who is to be blamed for her assassination. The opinion poll results gave a clear indication that Al-qaeda and Musharraf are to be blamed for the heinous act.

UPA Govt: Common Minimum Programme
Issue: 16th December, 2007


The Indian Council for Market Research (ICMR) in association with 'The Sunday Indian' conducted an opinion poll on UPA governments "Common minimum programme". The opinion poll was conducted across 5 cities in India. The respondents were asked whether Manmohan Singh is a weak or a strong PM. The responses to this answer were compared to the respondents voicing their opinion on the fact that Manmohan Singh would be able to complete his term or not.

Are women safe in nightclubs/bars?
Issue: 1st July, 2007


On behalf of 'The Sunday Indian' ICMR conducted a general opinion poll on the safety factor of women in bars and nightclubs. The survey was conducted in 6 cities of India with a sample size of 1000 respondents. The opinion poll was conducted only amongst females. Though most females refused having an unpleasant experience, they mainly preferred going to night clubs with friends and not alone.

TSI Bangla- New year Special


Nobobarsho (known as Bengali New Year) marks the beginning of a New Bengali Calendar Year. As a part of the celebration, The Sunday Indian (Mega issue) in association with ICMR(Indian Council for Market Research) conducted an opinion poll to identify and analyze the issues/events and their effect therein amongst the Bengali community across India.

The research was conducted in two phases. The first phase was to analyze and identify most discussed issues of 2006 and design a close ended questionnaire. This close ended questionnaire was circulated in the 5 major cities of India namely Delhi, Kolkata, Mumbai, Chennai and Bangalore.

A total of 845 respondents were covered across India through the random sampling technique. A comparative study was carried out to analyze the differences in responses amongst the Bengali community of Kolkata vis-à-vis the Bengali's in other cities.

Cricket World Cup 2007 Special Issue

ICMR in association with TSI conducted an opinion poll in 8 major cities namely Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai, Bangalore, Ahmedabad and Hyderabad using a close ended structured questionnaire. The total sample was 1450 respondents.

ICMR opinion poll on Sex education:

The government of India feels that students must feel comfortable seeking counseling on sex-related issues. Each of their questions, no matter how private, needs to be answered. Keeping this issue in mind the Indian Council for Market Research (ICMR) in association with The Sunday Indian is conducting an opinion poll on "Imparting Sex Education in Upper Primary School". Upper primary school is defined as classes from VI - VIII. The opinion poll was conducted across 7 cities in India namely Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai, Ahmedabad, Hyderabad and Bangalore. 1932 respondents were interviewed using a close ended structured questionnaire. According to 68% of the respondents sex education should form a part of the course content in upper primary schools. Though 52% of the respondents agreed to have discussed issues related to sex with their children 37% refused to the same as the respondents said that their children were too young at this stage to discuss the issue but were willing to discuss it in the near future. It is important to note that 56% of the respondents feel that both family and school should together impart sex education to students.

The male: female ratio was 50:50 wherein 966 respondents were males and 966 respondents were females.

ICMR conducted an opinion poll across 8 cities of India namely Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore, Chennai, Kolkata, Hyderabad, Pune and Ahmedabad to understand and identify the expectations of the common man from the year 2007. The opinion poll was conducted amongst 4256 respondents using a close-ended structured questionnaire. The sampling technique used for the survey was Simple random sampling Each of the cities was divided into 4 zones; North, South, East and West to ensure consistency amongst the respondents. The sample size distribution between the North and South of India was also taken into consideration to understand the diversity in opinion for the same set of questions. Apart from this, the number of respondents covered also ensured an equal distribution between SEC (Socio-economic Classification based on the education and occupation of the respondents) A, B and C with each segment having a presence of 33% respondents (SEC A was 34%). The survey also took into account the presence of at least 5% of Muslim community for community specific questions.

India 2007 - Great Expectations

ICMR conducted an opinion poll across 8 cities of India namely Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore, Chennai, Kolkata, Hyderabad, Pune and Ahmedabad to understand and identify the expectations of the common man from the year 2007. The opinion poll was conducted amongst 4256 respondents using a close-ended structured questionnaire. AIDS - Opinion Poll
Issue: 11th December, 2006


ICMR undertook an opinion poll to study the vulnerability of the so called low risk group of society coming from middle and higher income groups. The sample size was evenly spread taking into consideration, the age group as also the gender of the respondent. The questions varied from asking the respondent as to whether they had heard of any sexually transmitted disease to whether or not they felt threatened by AIDS.

DADA back as Captain
Issue: 4th December, 2006


ICMR undertook an opinion poll to understand the Indian masses perspective towards the current Indian cricket team and feedback towards reinstating Sourav Ganguly as the Captain of Indian Cricket Team. The primary survey was conducted amongst 375 respondents across 6 major cities of India namely Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai, Bangalore & Hyderabad using a structured questionnaire. The survey comprised of 97% males & 3% females respondents.

According to 71% of the respondents, Sourav Ganguly should lead the current Indian cricket team & 63% respondents feel that Sourav Ganguly deserves a chance in the team solely on the merit of his brilliant captaincy record.

Does Rahul Gandhi have a vision?

ICMR conducted an opinion poll in five major metros across age and income groups on 897 respondents on the common man’s perception on Rahul Gandhi. 53% of the respondents were of opinion that Rahul Gandhi has a vision of his own; however 47% respondents felt that dynasty is the main qualification for Rahul Gandhi to be in politics.
